Today, on September 3, 2008, one of the leading petrochemical companies of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, OJSC “Kazanorgsintez”, celebrates its 50th anniversary of foundation and the 45th anniversary of its first production output. The commissioning of a polycarbonates plant being the first one in Russia and the CIS countries indicates the completion of the first stage of the OJSC “Kazanorgsintez” strategic development program.

The Company reached its half-century anniversary with good results: within the last five years, the production grew from RUB 7.13 billion to RUB 21.5 billion (an increase by 301.5%), net income – from RUB 688.3 million to RUB 2.6 billion (an increase by 377.7%), the average salary - from RUB 7.4 thousand to 20.5 thousand (an increase by 277%). Within 2007, RUB 1.2 billion was allocated to the budget of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Company invests the significant amounts to the modernization of the existing facilities and the construction of new ones. For the period 2004-2007 only, over RUB 35 billion was invested in the realization of the projects of the first stage of the OJSC “Kazanorgsintez” strategic development program. Starting from September, these investments will allow increasing the annual volumes of production of marketable goods up to RUB 60 billion in the current prices.

The significant work was done as part of the realization of the first stage of the Company’s strategic development program:
- The whole Company’s infrastructure was either newly built or re-built with up to RUB 1.3 billion being spent for the overhaul works and the ecology protection measures on annual basis.
- The reconstruction of the HDPE production plant was done. This means the start-up of the first-ever in Russian production of linear and bimodal polyethylene. The polyethylene production capacities were increased from 350 thousand tons to 660 thousand tons with further increase up to 810 thousand tons per year.

- The reconstruction and construction of new ethylene production units was completed to increase the production capacity from 400 thousand tons up to 650 thousand tons.
- The first in Russia and the CIS countries Bisphenol-A production plant was constructed, commissioned, and the commercial operation was started with the capacity of 70 thousand tons.
- The polycarbonates production plant having no analogues in Russia and the CIS countries was completed. Polycarbonates represent itself an engineering plastic used for production of all kinds of goods including the plastic materials, automotive details, glass and headlights. Structural polycarbonate is used in the finishing of roof, green houses, as it stays resistant towards the infrared rays and traps the heat. This polymer is produced by a new Asahi Kasei Chemicals Japanese Corporation technology, free of the substances being hazardous for men’s health and ecology. The further polycarbonates processing is the direction, the expectations for small and medium business active development and the recovery of additional added value of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation are connected with, as well as with the linear and bimodal polyethylene.
In parallel with the completion of the first Company’s development stage, the realization of the second stage of development was started that includes the construction of new ethylene facilities and construction of other additional facilities. The cost of the project is USD3 billion. As soon as the second stage is completed, OJSC “Kazanorgsintez” will start producing the marketable goods for RUB 120 bln per year.
Due to the joint efforts of the Company’s team, the support provided by the government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the efficient long-term economic strategy of the Russian government, “Kazanorgsintez” remains on the leading positions of the Russian petrochemistry through many years. “Kazanorgsintez” is a brand that is recognized not only in Russia and the CIS, but in many foreign countries as well. The realization of such large-scale projects as those mentioned above will positively influence the economy of the Republic and Russia in the nearest perspective. And this is just the beginning!
