On September 8, 2017, Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Albert Shigabutdinov, General Director, TAIF PSC, Vladimir Busygin, Chairman, Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC, Azat Bikmurzin, General Director, Nizhnekamskneftekhim, and Aydar Metshin, Head of Nizhekamsk Municipal District participated in the formal function to start-up a 100 KTA high-concentration formaldehyde production unit at the company's Isoprene-Monomer Plant.

Formaldehyde is the raw material for production of isoprene though one-stage synthesis. It is produced in the new unit by methanol oxidative dehydrogenation on KH fixed-bed catalyst; the process is based on the Johnson Matthey Formox (Sweden) technology.

This unit is the first out of three projects to be implemented in the framework of the programme aimed at SKI-3 isoprene rubber production expansion to 330 thousand tonnes per year. The work on two other projects - reconstruction of the isoprene unit and the isobutylene unit - is in progress.

Notwithstanding a small size, the unit launched has integrated state-of-the-art technological solutions aimed to improve energy efficiency and safety. In addition, the negative impact on the environment has been minimized.
