The official foundation stone ceremony of the major objects of the Universiade was held in Kazan


 
  The official foundation stone ceremony of one of the major objects of the Universiade - Kazan Tennis Academy and Water Sports Palace - was held today. The ceremony was held on the bare space on Orenburgsky Trakt where in 1.5-2 years the world class sport complex is planned to be completed as a part of the preparation and application campaign for Universiade 2013. The Tatarstan top government officials attended the event. The construction was officially started by President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev, Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexandr Gusev, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, General Director of PSC “TAIF” Albert Shigaboutdinov, “Sintez” Water Polo Team Captain Irek Zinnurov, the Team Head Coach Vladimir Zakharov, and other officials. Mayor of the candidate city for the World Student Games 2013, Ilsur Metshin, was the first who gave speech. The Mayor expressed thanks to the Tatarstan government and TAIF Group of Companies for the support in the sport complex building and construction. “We are striving to bring the World Universiade 2013 to Kazan, and these objects will help us to succeed”, Ilsur Metshin noted. As the Mayor said, students of children’s sport schools – future winners of the largest international competitions – will train in the Water Sports Palace and the Tennis Academy.
The frequent visitor of the Republic, Shamil Tarpishchev, who was born in Kazan, brought with him, besides good spirits, words of support and gratitude towards the government of the Republic, the oldest cup prize in the world – the Davis Cup – won by the Russian men’s tennis team. “Sports represent a nation, build the image of a country. Today, Tatarstan is the country’s number one in terms of sports, and all these have been achieved thanks to the Republic government.” he stated. “The Tennis Academy under construction will contribute to new achievements of the Tatarstan and Russian tennis-players,” – Shamil Tarpishchev considers. The captain of “Sintez” Water Polo Team, “Len Trophy” Cup-2007 holder, Champion of Russia 2006-2007, said, in his turn, that the Water Sports Palace was being constructed for the benefit of the younger generation of players.
In his speech, the Tatarstan President, Mintimer Saimiev, underlined that building and construction of new sports complexes, numerous achievements of the Tatarstan athletes and players lead to advance of unity, rally the nation.
“Today, we’ve opened a new football and athletics exercising area on the Central Stadium, we are laying foundation of the complex of the world standards, the Field Hockey Center is waiting for its opening… And this is not the end. “Alga” – only ahead,” said the Tatarstan President.
The President promised that the projects would be completed in the shortest time possible. And in case, Kazan was entitled to host the Universiade-2013, the Olympic Village would appear neighboring the Complex. “In any case, the facilities will be of the top level,” – he assured.
After speeches, the ceremony attendants laid the capsule with a message for future generations on the sports complex site, and the foundation stone of the sports facilities.
Vladimir Zakharov, “Sintez” Water Polo Team captain, said the dream of all “Sintez” players was to come true – the Water Sports Palace building had started. The team players had even passed their written requests on the project. In particular, “Orgsintez” swimming pool complex with seating for 540 spectators had turned to lack seats due to the growing popularity of water polo. The new project includes a covered arena with grandstands for 5 thousand seats.
Chief Architect of Tatarstan, Irek Fayzullin, said the approximate cost of the Tennis Academy construction was estimated as RUR 400 mln, and the Water Sports Palace as RUR 700 mln. TAIF Group of Companies represented by “Kazanorgsintez” is to provide financing for the Water Sports Palace building and construction. The Tennis Academy is to be financed by 50% through the Tatarstan budget, and the rest part of funding is to be provided by the Russian Tennis Academy and “Kuzbassrazrezugol”.
It should be noted that the Tennis Center project includes a roofed complex comprising 8 indoor courts and other sports facilities. Besides, 8 open courts with artificial top surface will be located in the Tennis Academy. The Tennis Center project also includes auxiliary facilities for players, amateurs, spectators, as well as premises for judges, administration offices and support utilities for the Tennis Center and the children’s and junior sport school employees, premises for equipment storage and repair, medical center, phyto-bar, sauna, Jacuzzi, shower units, press-center for 100 seats and office rooms, international call office; café for 100 seats, mini-shops, gift-stands. The project also covers video scoreboards on the Central and the First Courts, as well as on the open area.
The complex is planned to host such competitions as competitive swimming, water polo, springboard diving, synchronized diving, synchronized swimming. The complex will have 4 pools with lanes of various length (50.25 meters, and springboard diving pool). The Water Sports Palace is to serve for training for students of children’s and junior sport school and for “Sintez” team players. The complex project also includes administration offices and support utilities for employees, facilities for players, press-center for 200 seats, special room for judges communicating the room for results processing. Besides, a fitness center is planned to be equipped for 300 visitors per hour with training rooms connected with covered and open swimming pools. The fitness center complex includes aerobics, strength training facilities, two squash courts, exercise therapy hall, SPA center, medical center, phyto-bar, drug use control room. The project also includes a café for 40 seats, a buffet-bar, a restaurant with seating for 50-60 visitors, shops and a hotel for 80 guests.
