A number of programs has been adopted in the republic aimed to develop the domestic petrochemicals market
Tatarstan’s enterprises occupy a considerable petrochemicals market share in terms of majority of product items. The President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov revealed this today at the Big Chemistry Forum in Ufa. “Potential of the domestic market, high import share for a number of its segments are a basis for us to make decisions related to revamping of the existing production facilities and construction of new ones”, the RT President said.
In 2013, the production of synthetic rubbers grew by 7.9%, that of polyethylene by 2.5%, and of polystyrene by 26.2% in Tatarstan. In the course of the recent 12 years, Nizhnekamskneftekhim annually launches new large-capacity production facilities. So, in April 2014 the fourth line of polystyrene production plant with capacity 50 KTA was put into operation.
“Import substitution strategy is for us not only a refusal of technologies import and intellectual rent payment abroad, Rustam Minnikhanov stressed, it is also a development of the own technological basis, and high-marginal products yield.”
Within 2001 through 2012, Tatarstan enterprises’ share in the increment of the Russia-wide petrochemicals production in terms of plastics and rubbers made up some 80%. Ethylene production plants of Nizhnekamskneftekhim and Kazanorgsintez expanded 1.5 times during this period and equaled to 1.25 million tpa. “In 2020, the annual plastics output must reach 2.9 million tons, and that of rubbers 1 million tons in the Tatarstan’s petrochemical industry”, the RT President stated.
According to him, a number of industrial programs were adopted in Tatarstan aimed to develop petrochemicals application in construction, road building, and to support small business in the petrochemical industry. All these programs are aimed at development of the domestic petrochemicals market.
Based on 2013 performance, about 30% out of 1.42 million tons of plastics produced in Tatarstan are sent to be processed within the republic. “Our task is to reach the republic’s polymers processing volume up to 50% out of the gross output”, Rustam Minnikhanov stated.
The President of Tatarstan named Nizhnekamsk as a successful example of an area created for stable polymers consumption. 13 small and medium enterprises process products manufactured by Nizhnekamskneftekhim, processing volume amounted to over 100 thousand tons, ca. 3 thousand jobs are created, production output reached RUB 10.5 billion. 27 thousand tons of polymers were processed in the Kamskie Polyany Industrial Park only; the revenue reached RUB 2.2 billion. The media office of the RT President revealed this.
