General Electric Won TAIFs Generation Companys Tender for Kazan CHP Modernization


TGK-16 OJSC (a 100 percent subsidiary of TAIF PSC) selected GE RUS LLC, Russian representation of General Electric, as a winner of the bidding for general contractor for the modernization of Kazan CHP-3. Totally 12 proposals were submitted for the bidding. Upon the assessment of the tender offers GE RUS LLC was selected as the winner, which offered its services at the cost of RUB 9.23 billion. while the reserve price was RUB 9.32 billion.

The project involves the construction of a gas turbine unit (GTU) with a 310-390 MW waste heat boiler. The contractor must procure engineering survey, engineering, construction and installation works, equipment supply, commissioning, along with the attraction of financing for the project including through ECA. The GTU must be supplied to the warehouse of Kazan CHP-3 not later than September 2014. Its commissioning is scheduled for 4 Q, 2016. The discounted payback period must not exceed 10 years.

Kazan CHP-3 was commissioned in 1968 and it supplies heat and power to the industrial enterprises (mainly to Kazanorgsintez OJSC, which is a part of TAIF Group) and the residents of Kazan. As of January 1, 2013, the installed electric power capacity amounted to 420 MW, and for heat energy 1897 Gcal/h.
